On the same land that I raised my family. I live alone, have three dogs and still drive and mow my own yard. I am very proud that I have lived to be 101, and I am so thankful to God for blessing me with these years I'm able to spend with my family.

We took a trip to the delta and we saw different kinds of water. Once you get in the salt water there are not as many trees as there are in fresh water. But there are little trees there for the animals that live there.
The trees in fresh water are big enough for a bird called osprey to live in and if a male comes back home without a catch it can’t come inside the nest until it has a catch. Then they will fly around to show off to the other males. They eat fish and other small animals except alligators.

Did you know the famous artist Leonardo Da Vinci designed Fort Conde? The Fort is designed in the shape of a star. There were huge cannons facing the water in order to protect them from being attacked. The barracks were cool and dark because they are under the Fort. I learned that most soldiers were short. The hallways and doorways were very low because of this, I loved the Fort.

Whiile we were on the field trip I learned more about a cell. We had to go into a model of a big cell. The tour guide told us all the different parts and what they do in and out of the cell. We used a microscope to see what wasiving inside a cell.

I know you guys had fun and learned a lot. I wish I had been able to go on this trip! What was it like when you were inside the cell? What parts of the cell could you see? Did it look like the pictures you studied in Science class?

The walking tour and Fort Conde field trip was fascinating. My favorite part was seeing how the soldiers lived. The barracks were very dark small and crowded. I would not have liked to have been a soldiers during that time. Learning how the guns were loaded was interesting it took them a long time for a soldier to load a gun. I thought it was neat to walk on top of the tunnel. I didn't know the tunnel was built on top of Fort Conde

Our class vist to Fort Conde was tiring but exciting. The shooting of the cannon almost made me jump out of my shoes. The tour guide know a lot of stuff about Mobile. It was sad when he told us that many of the soldiers couldn't read. It made me think how blessed I am to going to be getting an education.

Our trip to Fort Conde was so much fun. We have a lot of history in our city. We have been ruled under Spanish and French. Fort Conde was built in the early 1700'S. The French built it to guard the city of Mobile. The most fascinating thing about the fort is the design, it is shaped like a star. I enjoyed hearing story about the bricks on the sidewalk at Fort Conde.

I learned many interesting things about the Spanish exploring Mobile. Around the 1500 to 1680s the Spanish explored Mobile Bay. If they had settled here Mobile would be the oldest city in the United States. The Sanish left many influences behind that you can see throughout our city.

My favorite part of the walking tour of Mobile was touring the Phoenix fire station. It was built in 1859 and the brick in front of it were originally used to steady and weight ships crossing the ocean water. The fire truck
were pulled by horses so the station looked like a stable.

Fort Conde was very intersting. I felt like I was going back in time. The part I liked the most was when the guide showed us the models of the batttes at the fort. This made me see what the action may have looked like. I liked the little painted soldiers. I also liked seeing the gun powder room.

A favorite part of the Fort Conde field trip was seeing different rooms of the fort. I would have liked to live in the officer's quarters because of the nice furniture, the bed was comfortable looking. The enlisted men slept 3 or 4 to a bed which i thought was unusual. I would think this would have been very crowded and uncomfortable. I also liked the fancy dinnerware of the officers. The enlisted men had tin plates and cups to drink and eat from.

The bus ride to Fort Conde was fun. The walk was long but interesting. I have never walked through Downtown Mobile. This place is alive with with a lot of history. The best part for me was standing on top of Fort Conde watching the cars from the interstate zoom by. This was a fun trip.

Do you that there is a lot of history at Fort Conde? During our class trip I learned so much about the port city. Many people think Mardi Gras started in New Orleans, but they just don't know it originated here in Mobile. Visit Fort Conde and see the old grown and costumes worn by earlier kings and queens of Mardi Gras

The oldest Episcopal Church in the state of Alabama is located right here in Mobile. It is named Christ Episcopal Church. It was found in 1823 by English Settlers. It is a big church with stained glass windows. Even though it was being worked on because it was damaged by Hurricane Katrina, it still stood like a proud spirit in the mist of the turmoil around it.

I enjoyed learning about the French Explorers during our field trip to Fort Conde. In 1702, they settled at a place called Twenty Seven Bluff. In 1711, the settlement moved to present day Mobile. The French built Fort Conde in 1714. The original Fort Conde was torn down in 1821. I think it is fascinating that some original bricks of the first Fort Conde still remain.
